Triston Casas Suffers Grade 2 Ankle Sprain, To Miss Time

Red Sox First Baseman Injured in Preseason Game

Casas Expected to Miss 6-8 Weeks

Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas has suffered a Grade 2 ankle sprain and is expected to miss 6-8 weeks, the team announced on Tuesday. Casas suffered the injury in the first inning of Monday's spring training game against the Atlanta Braves. The 22-year-old was fielding a ground ball when he rolled his ankle. He was examined by team doctors and an MRI confirmed the sprain. Casas had been one of the most impressive players for the Red Sox this spring, batting .444 with two home runs and five RBIs in five games. He was expected to be the team's starting first baseman on Opening Day. With Casas out, the Red Sox will likely turn to Bobby Dalbec at first base. Dalbec started 133 games at first base for the Red Sox last season, batting .240 with 25 home runs and 78 RBIs. The Red Sox have been hit hard by injuries this spring. Shortstop Xander Bogaerts (shoulder) and outfielder Jarren Duran (back) are also currently sidelined.
